Temp Guage
« on: Feb 03, 2013, 06:25:30 PM »
Swapped out the thermostat which was a chore in itself. Broke a bolt and an easy out, but anyways. Started the truck and plugged in the wire into the plug, but the temp gauge isn't working. Has to be easy, what should I be checking?

What year of Toyota, motor and Carb/EFI?  Cause on my 22RE, my sending unit isn't in the T-Stat housing.  It's back in the middle of the intake where it bolts to the head.

Here's a picture I stole offline.

Check to see if the wire isn't broken.  When I got my truck the sensor wire that goes to the T-Stat housing, was broke, and I had to solder and repair it.

It is an 85 4runner with efi. Single wire coming out of the thermostat housing. The gauge was working before I unplugged it (reason for thermostat swap)

I would then test the wire.  Pull it all apart and see if the wire isn't broken, mostly at the crimp for the pigtail.  Cause thats where the corrosion will start.  Just remember its 28 year old wire, it gets brittle over time.

I had bad wires in my truck, but it wasn't until I used a volt ohm meter to see the resistance, that I had a bunch of bad wires.
