your motor is the problem, no amount of removing stuff is gonna make that slug perform better

Exaust sytem (cat pipes muffler headers) new air intake, better gas, change oil, AIC chip/resistor. Thats for the little things, for big ones like cams, pistons bored out,    bored, ported, and polished headers, new rockers and such.... thats mucho money.

Exactly.  The only truck that motor had good power in was a little 2wd.

You have a great vehicle and the motor with last forever its just your truck is a pig.  Very Heavy.  Not much you can do about that.  Just live with it.

You can dump all kinds of money into it but what for, it'll still be slow.  You could spend over $1000 bucks and get all the power mods possible and it will still be slow.  Save your money and drive it, and when it blows up at 300,000 miles put a bigger motor in it.

Deal with it.  When it blows, then get a new motor. :dunno:

I'm really not sure what people have against the 3.nothing  I have it in my truck, and while it certainly cant keep up with the ricers (not that I want to) I havent seen any problems with it.    The only mods I have are a K&N airfilter, and custom exhaust system with a bolt in cat/straightpipe and a flowmaster muffler.  I can cruise at 80mph with 37"s if I wanted to, and it easily gets me up to speed on the Sacramento onramps.  I went from a 5.9v8 to a 3.0v6, and the power drop was obvious, but tolerable for me, and i drove that 5.9 like I stole it. :driving:  :smack:  So why all this  about the 3.0??? :dunno:

Yeah, just like Huhwhye said, drive it until it breaks then upgrade. If your purpose is to wheel, then you have a great motor that works and is reliable. If you want a hot rod 4x4, then that's another story. I like my 3vze because it's reliable and cheap and I don't want to mess with an engine swap because I'd rather spend the time out wheeling and camping. Just my .02.
However, after it blows up, then its 5vz-fe time! :D

I would have to agree with getting a bigger motor than upgrading the current V6. I am running every trick in the book for more power on  a 3vz-e. Costed me a fortune to get it to 236 ponies. Did everything from forged crank, pistons, shaved heads, bored t-body. Invested over $6000.  So take it from me. Drive it till it blows, then change it out. Thats what I will do next.

At the time my motor went I was deciding whether to go V8 or do a rebuild. The local engine rebuilder told me that he could get good h.p. out of the 3.0L for a reasonable price.....In the end I got hosed....
What's it got...
Forged Pistons
Forged Crank
Race Rods
Reground the cranks for more lift and duration
Ported, polished and shaved the heads 10 thou.
Ported and polished intake
Oversized valves
Bored the throttle body 5mm
K&N Cold air induction kit
Dynomax exhaust system
Just need headers now
Removed all emissions including EGR valve
It's ready to run NOS, but trying to find a turbo charger that I could run on it.
Like I said though, not worth it. Keep with a V8 swap or something else. If your 3.0L goes do yourself a favor and use it as a boat anchor.
Speaking of which anyone know of a turbo kit or something that I could use on a 3.0????

thanks

LC Engineering has supercharger kits for some 3.0 applications, but no turbo kits for 3.0s.

It's not a camry motor, It came out of my 1990 4Runner. Yes the camry motor is different, and there are also slight differences between a p/u and 4runner motor as well.

NO, I'm sorry I didn't make it clear

I mean the 3.0 supercharger on the LC eng. page is for a camry motor not a truck motor

I agree with drive it till it blows, but until then, do an exhaust system. The stock system is tiny, and the cat is too. Let that thing breath better and it will make a big differance. Not V8 big, but worth the money, noticable big.

Took the cat out long ago. Running a 2 1/4" exhaust system now. Just would like to add some headers.

Hey, keep us posted on what you end up running for headers and what you do with that annoying crossover pipe.

Sorry L.A. Fred I won't be able to help you with the header and cross over pipe issue.
I am adding a turbo charger to my 3.0L so I won't need them.
I just picked up a Turbo out of a Nissan 300ZX. Should spool up really quick.
Good luck with the headers.
