intermitent tach
« on: Feb 18, 2009, 07:24:53 PM »
on my 80 ...the tach will work about 5% of the time ..sometimes i'll start the engine and it'll be fine for 10mins and then quit and won't work again for a week then i'll be driving along and notice it will be working again ... i checked the obvious at the distributor itis fine , iv'e messaged all the wires going thru the fire wall and under the dash but i can't reach the tach.i have not messed with the dashboard ever .. seems odd that it would be so intermitent..  any suggestions are welcome

thanks you for ANY help :driving:

Pull the cluster if nothing else checks out. Super easy on these trucks. 5 screws to get the cover from around the cluster, then 4 screws on the cluster and it's out. Could be the wire is loose or bad connection at the back of the panel. Does it look like somebody ran a new wire for the tach, or does it look like it was wired for it from the factory?

Cable could be broken too and just sometimes *catches just right* to spin the cable enought to get the tach moving for a second..

Lol.  This would be a speedo cable.  Not tack.   Sorry.    :D
