I used white lithium grease in my oil pump as well.  I also cranked the engine over a couple of seconds at a time for several minutes to build some oil pressure (using an aftermarket oil pressure gauge) before starting.

I turns out the stuff I used is just called "engine assembly grease" but it is white, and I am going to assume that it is white lithium grease. I may do that method, Volcom, it seems like a good idea to me.

Ok, I ran into a new problem. I am in the process of swapping stuff from the 88 engine back onto the 85 engine so i can put the engine in my truck. PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT!!! Thanks.

I got the upper intake off of the 88 engine. Once i got the upper intake off, I could tell something was wrong. I saw pools of oil in the lower intake (see pics). I looked up into the upper intake and all of the carbon which is usually rock solid was loose and oily. The oil smells like gas, so I think my cold start injector is leaking. I think I will send my cold start injector to HERE to get refurbished. What would cause that much oil to accumulate in my intake? Any ideas?

The engine was worn out... Thats just blowby residue typical to old engines.  Stop worrying so damned much. :hahaha:

This is my first rebuild so i am being extra careful and cautious. Thanks a lot WT I appreciate it! I guess i can't just drop this engine in a new toy when i get one without rebuilding it first.

Did the engine run ok? Or did it smoke a lot?  If it ran fine honestly I'd run it till it dies....

There was a slight white color to the exhaust... I think the HG was on the way out

It was either blown or not. there is no middle ground on a HG....  Still, I'd drive it like I hated it and enjoy the freedom of not worrying about it...

Thats how I have been driving it for the past 3 or so months! The smoke has gotten progressively worse. It isn't blown HG bad though... maybe it is from something else? :dunno: I guess it will have te be rebuilt before dropping it into whatever toy I buy next.

I have put this  assembly lube in every Toyota (and  every other make for that matter) oil pump I have ever installed both at work and for my personal engines. It has a very low melting point and mixes right in to the oil with in minutes of starting the motor. if this is what you used you should not have any problems with it building oil pressure Todd
