If I remember correctly I read somewhere on this forum about 79-81 solid axles are not the desirable for an SAS. Is that because the bottom axle support or is there other differences. I have tried searching but I can't locate the thread.

Yes, (as far as I know) the lower truss is the only difference between the three styles.  79-81 = no truss, 82-83 = mid truss, 84-85 = full truss.  IMHO, the weak part is where the knuckle ball attaches to the tube.  Get yourself some knuckle gussets and run whatever axle you can get your hands on.

knuckle balls are the same 79-85  if it was me  i'd grab a 79-80  and  run the truss on top  so i would have that extra clearance,  i have a 82 axle now though

79-80 toyota mini axles -> Rotor bolts onto hub with 6 bolts and the wheel studs are pressed into the hub only. For Land Cruiser vented brake swap you must use 79-80 LC rotors.
81-85 toyota mini axles -> Rotor bolts onto the hub with 2 bolts and the wheel studs are prasses through the hub and is pressed into the rotor.

X2  Just make sure whatever axle you run has the stock Aisin locking hubs.  The aftermarket Warn hubs suck.

The asco hubs work just as well as the asisin. Both are the same desighn, different manufacturers. The early axles had the asco, and later models had the asisin.

The ASCO hubs are Aisin's.
ASCO = Aisin Seiki COrporation

Cool I had no idea, I just knew what i had experianced. I assumed different manufacturers becouse of the different names on the dials.

Only the 79 has no truss. I have an 80 that has the mid-truss.
