If I remember correctly I read somewhere on this forum about 79-81 solid axles are not the desirable for an SAS. Is that because the bottom axle support or is there other differences. I have tried searching but I can't locate the thread.
Yes, (as far as I know) the lower truss is the only difference between the three styles. 79-81 = no truss, 82-83 = mid truss, 84-85 = full truss. IMHO, the weak part is where the knuckle ball attaches to the tube. Get yourself some knuckle gussets and run whatever axle you can get your hands on.
The asco hubs work just as well as the asisin. Both are the same desighn, different manufacturers. The early axles had the asco, and later models had the asisin.
correct '79 came with no truss..
The ASCO hubs are Aisin's. ASCO = Aisin Seiki COrporation
Was it only '79?
