is there a differeence between automatic starters and manuel??????    or maybe the flywheels themselves cause the old one i pulled out was quiet like it should be. and the new one is loud like it is grinding a bit when in action.  and the new 3.0 motor they put in. he isn't positive about the flywheel being original it might be out of an automatic.  what could be the problem here any info. would be a great help. thanxs

Autozone doesnt list one for either a manual or auto, so I would say they are the same?
Why dont you put in the quiet one?
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

I don't know if the tooth count is the same but autos have flex plates and manuals have flywheels.

EDIT: They both are 120 tooth so the starters should be the same but rockauto has 2 different numbers, one for manual and one for auto.

Part # 2800103 manual
Part # 2800116 auto

the old starter went dead. so we got one from auto zone. and it was loud and we ask for an xchange that there was something wrong with that one.  and the other new did it also. they also said the numbers are the same auto or manuel.   but i have heard somewhere that there is a differance between the two but i thought i had somthing to do with voltage.

Did you try new contacts before you got rid of the toyota starter?

There are two different starters, but they will both work on a manual. One is a bit bigger and heaver duty. Autos do not have a flywheel per say. they have a flex plate that the torque convertor bolts to which acts like the flywheel.

Took my buddy five starters from Vato Zone before he got one that worked right, Then it only lasted six months.

Do 3.0s use a nippondenso starter like the 22Rs?

If so, you're better off just fixing the original starter yourself......

Yes, it is Denso, unit.

If you still have the original starter have it rebuilt, it may need more than just new contacts.
