Exhaust manifolds!
« on: Apr 18, 2007, 01:08:13 PM »
I am going to pick up my motor tomorrow.  And I just realized that I need to get looking into a exhaust. So, I was asking about headers and the info I got was to look at NWOR and Downey, but crap, I can get a stock exhaust for what they want.  So, where is the best place to get a stock exhaust manifold and down pipe?

I'm going to do everything right and if it needs to be replaced I'm gonna replace it!  i.e. ~ Engine mounts, hoses, vacuum hoses, and etc.  Gonna order a Marlin 1200 clutch!

your going to need a manifold or header for a turbo application....that is if you still running the turbo set up.  lc has a turbo header that cost more than my whole truck...

How much are you planning on spending on a stock manifold and down pipe? You're looking for new ones I would assume... Anyway, if they're going to cost you a bit, then you might as well go to summit and get a thorley header. Mine cost $182 shipped for my 1st gen. Pretty damn good price to quality in my opinion. Just my  :twocents: . What motor is this for?

I'd love to get a Thorley, but online I can get some stock manifolds for $58 and down pipes for $70 and don't know about shipping yet!  But I was talking to a buddy and he knows of some stock exhaust's that he's going to try to pick up for me on the cheap!  So, we will see what will happen!  There is a  :moon: load of them on e-bay new!

I have quite a few of both.  Shipping might kill it though, they're kinda heavy.

I'm going to see what happens for now!  I've got connections for some used stock exhausts!   :crossed:  If I can save some $ here and there.  Then later I can get a killer exhaust.  Especially if I use the turbo intake, more air to the intake, then I'll get a cam and a header will help boost a little more hp and torque out of this motor!  But that will be later down the road!  I just didn't realize what a good header would cost!  :yikes:

the Thorley header is worth the money, I paid about $225 shipped from summit racing for mine.  It made a huge difference.  I was able to hold 4th gear in places where I had to go to 3rd.  Better gas mileage too.

Doug Thorley is the only way to go in my opinion.  They are alot cheaper than any other quality header.  You could get a Pacesetter for just over $100 buy my experience with cheaper headers is that the flanges will warp and they will start to leak.

This is why I'm looking at getting stock manifold now, until I can afford to get the good stuff!
