Front drive mod tips?
« on: Mar 11, 2004, 10:06:36 AM »
Hi everyone. I'm new to this BBS, and to my '87 4runner. I just bought it (1 month ago) and have torn down the engine to do a timing chain job. my machinist found damage around the head water passages that needed to be welded up if I didn't want to blow a new head gasket. Is this a common problem with the 22re engine?
Also, since I've pulled out the front differential I've been told I can upgrade it with one from a V6 4runner... Is this true? If so, is it a bolt on, or do I need to get out my grinder, cutting torch, and case of beer to do the job?

I have had the same problem with my 22R and so has a friend of mine. Maybe it's just bad luck. I even had mine welded up and machined again and same thing so don't use HP Engines in victor if you know where thats at. As for the V-6 third slap that puppy in

I have heard that having a bad ground from your engine to your chasis is a cause of this.  Check the large grounding strap that goes from your block to your frame.
