NEED INFO ON SPRING OVER?
« on: Mar 25, 2006, 02:30:52 PM »
I WANT TO DO A SPRING OVER ON MY  88 YJ,  I HAVE THE KIT FROM RUBICON EXPRESS, SWAY BAR DISCONNECTS, BRAKES LINE EXT,  BUT MY QUESTION IS , CAN YOU PERFORM THIS WITH STOCK LEAF SPRINGS,  LAST YEAR I BROKE A REAR LEAF EYELET OFF, AND REPLACED THEM WITH HEAVY DUTY 6 LEAF STOCK SPRINGS, I NEED NEW FRONTS THERE FLAT (NO ARCH) .  OR SHOULD I GET NEW LEAFS WITH A 3"LIFT ALL AROUND.

QUESTION 2:  WILL THE USE OF 3"LEAF SPRING LIFT MAKE THE TOTAL LIFT 8.5" WITH THE SPRING OVER/:  I'M A LITTLE LOST.

So far I still have the stock Amigo leafs in the rear of my Amigo, but I had to add a leaf to bring it up a bit.  :headscratch: should be fine

either do the spring over with maybe a add a leaf,   or the 3 inch springs,  but if it was me i'd do the spring over  just make sure and measure your kingpin angles befor you do anything then make sure they are the same when you weld the perches on top

Doing a spring over on your jeep will give you around 4.5-5.5" of lift depending on the thickness of your spring pack using stock springs.
Add the height to that any sort of lift spring, or add-a-leaf.  My cousin had a 86 CJ-7 with a spring over and 4" YJ springs, he fit 35" boggers no problem, could have gone with 37's for some minor fender triming, 38's+ with major fender trimming.  It was a little tall though, had about 9-9.5", he got about 5.5" out of the spring over plus the 4" from the YJ's.

I think a spring over on stock YJ springs or 2" YJ spring would be great, 35's would fit great.

WELL IT HAS THE SHACKLE LIFT 2" AND THE 3" BODY LIFT,  AND I CAN EASILY FIT  35'S WITHOUT TRIMMING NOW., TRIED OUT A BUDDY OF MINES JEEP'S 35'S.  SO I WILL JUST REPLACE THE STOCK FRONTS WITH STOCK SPRINGS AND AN ADD A LEAF AND LEAVE THE REAR AS IT IS .  I WILL BE PUTTING IT ON AROUND JUNE/JULY .  THE WIFE HAS GOT ME REDOING THE BATHROOM FIRST, THEN MY JEEP.  BUT IT IS SCHEDULED FOR PAINT MAY 22ND.  THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

Did a spring over, but also changed the stock springs to Rubicon reverse-eye springs ....... awesome
these springs also added about 1 1/2" additional lift
You can also change your front shock towers (Ford Part #'s - E5TZ-18183-A) for about $30.. and gain an additional 4-5" of shock travel

i did a sos on my 83 cj, i used stock yj springs, rubicon express shackles, i put dana 44 knuckles on my dana 30 so i could run high steer, you have to have high steer, yes you can use stock springs, flat springs are good but make sure you run some kinda of traction bar on the rear, cause you will get axle wrap pretty bad, my flexes like crazy, if you have any other ? just holla
