...if an adapter existed. right now the only adapters(aside from some 1 off from a machine shop) out there for a ford bellhousing are for the G and W series...
I've got a 5.0 HO in my '85. Total cost was around $2,500.00 including $700.00 to rebuild the AOD. The adapter from the AOD to the TC was around $540.00 from Partsmikepart. It took about a month from start to finish. I kept the SS manifolds and yes you have to modify the passenger side to miss the frame. I use a 3 row Toyota radiator, tranny cooler and a 2000cfm pusher fan to cool it. No room for a mech. fan. I went with the auto because it's more dependable and the overdrive is great. I get 18mpg at 70mph and the truck ways about 4klbs. The engine came out of a '91 Thunderbird. It has 140k on it and runs perfect. I've put 10kmiles on it so far without a single problem. In my opinion it's the only way to go, and go it does.
i had a freind in cali that put a 289(very close) in a 88 toy that had a 3.0 v6, he used the stock radiator and it worked great. he later added a aux. fan for safty, but it worked. you should call foothill offroad in california, they have done a few of these swaps there # is 1-530-889-2021
