Axle differences
« on: Feb 14, 2021, 02:21:23 PM »
I think I know, but not sure.  What are the differences between full float and semi float?  The full float can get the axle pulled without the tire or brake coming off?

My Tacoma I cannot extract the axle without the tire off and rear brake coming with it.

Keep the tech going here, even if it is the basics.  Marlin don't die!

OK.  I don't have full float rear axles(didn't think so) and I haven't seen one in person ever.  I have stock CVs in front.  I'd like RCVs with the RCLT but that won't happen soon if ever.

Anyway, back to learning.  What's the difference between Birfields and Longfields?

you will see full float rear axles on most 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. my f250 is this way.
toyota uses semi-full float rear axles.

birfields are factory. longfields were built by bobby long hence longfeild, just like marfield is marlins.
