Alternator differences?
« on: Feb 24, 2005, 03:00:29 PM »
Can someone explain the difference between a IC Regulator type and a TIRRILL type alternator on a 1983 Truck?

Thanks in advance.

I was wondering the same thing, I went to buy a new alternator for my 82 toy, and they had 3 different alternators.  I have no idea which one to buy!

Mine is actually labeled on the side of the alt.  And I have the little box on the inner fender labeled IC Regulator.  Just would like to know the differences in the 2.

Just make sure you get the right one or it'll burn up your wires, ask me how I know......There were two options for my 80 and I got the less expensive of the two and it eventually burned up some wires goin to the alt. and toasted it and the regulator.  Mine says somewhere near the plug which one it is now.
