Alternator question on 82 SR5
« on: Jul 19, 2010, 07:41:32 PM »
OK I was in a hurry to change the alternator and forgot to disconnect the + lead to the battery. Yeah it shorted. Anyway, I disconnected the + lead continued to remove the bad Alt. Finished up with the new one installed. Truck starts but is only showing 9v on the gauge and dies when I unhook the battery. I'm guessing its only running on battery power and not the new alt. What link in between got fried? Would it be the regulator on the firewall (drivers side), fused link, etc. Any help appreciated.

yes you fried the voltage regulator,  thats kinda why it says to remove the battery cable from the battery
