Elkotoy build
« on: Jan 16, 2010, 05:34:35 PM »
I bought all the parts to start this build over a year ago after a few month of tinkering I ended up jobless. Now finaly back to work I have money to build. I bought someone start to a truck that they gave up on. This is what I brought home an '82 fram with 5" springs and a 21R motor.

I picked up a '87 turbo truck missing the motor for 500 bucks. Mounted the extended cab on the shortend 80's frame will leave 5' for a flat bed. this is how it sit now.

Pick up a 85 supra with a good 2.8L in it Now time to dive it to the harness. It looks like about most of it can go. Good thing it came with the Toyota service manual.

Made some progress got all the wiring gone through and down to the bare minimum to run. I also got the motor pulled and on the stand. Dose anyone know the supra has rack and pinion steering is there any difference in the power steering pumps? Will it work on a pick up steering box?

OK with the help of a couple of factory Toyota repair manuals I found out that a 4x4 power steering pump put out around 925 Psi and so dose the 85 supra I took the motor from. The thing I found odd was it say that a 4wd power steering pump put out the 925 psi but a 2wd power steering pump of the same year put out 1070 psi. Anyone know way a 2wd would put out more?

That is odd. I have ran power steering pumps off of toyota Celica's in my trucks with out ever having an issue. If I new that there was one out there that put out more psi I would have went with that.

OK for all of you who have done supra motor swaps. When putting the 5mge into the trucks what is the best oil pan to use. I have heard that the supra one will work then I heard to swap it with a cressida pan or to use the one from an 7mge. Witch one is the best way to go?
