Need engine help
« on: Jul 20, 2009, 04:05:21 PM »
Ok, so i rebuilt my 22re and it ran great. Changed the oil and it dumped out a little of what I now know to be gas. Originally i thought it was just some left over water from when i had it hot tanked. So it still ran great but then it started to bog out a little and if i turned it off and turned it back on it had a hard time starting. I let it sit for a couple days then drained some of the oil and it dumped out a quart of gas before any oil came out. So i figured i had a faulty injector.

Bought 4 new fuel injectors, put them in yesterday and now it runs like crap. Its missing, and has no power. Its firing on all 4 cylinders. checked the spark plugs and there all good. timing is good. compression checked it and cylinders 1,2,3 are at 175 and cylinder 4 is at 180.

I have no idea what the problem is so i could use any advise you guys have.

Thanks

That was the first thing I checked. They're all hooked up

May not be relevant but, my 83 had the same problem some years ago and it turned out to be the fuel pump leaking gas into the crankcase.

nope, sorry his problem cant be the fuel pump since its in the tank, he has a 22RE

sounds like maybe the cold start injector is stuck open, its washing the cylinders with gas,   if you dont find the "leak"  it WILL burn the bottom end up

Make sure your getting proper ventilation through the PCV valve.

The misfireing can cause the raw gas to be pushed into the crankcase too.  Like Glen said, it will damage the motor is you don't resolve the issue.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Is your cold start injector leaking a little? I don't know if it would make a difference, just a thought!
