Cab removal Need help
« on: Jan 13, 2009, 10:20:55 AM »
Hey everyone. I have 1985 Toyota pickup ext-cab EFI sr5 with a w56-A no major mods. About a year ago I was out wheeling and ended up rolling it 7 days after I spent $1,000.00 on body work and paint. Thank God my wife and I made it out with out a scratch. The truck on the other hand took a beating. Ive tried to salvage the cab but its too far gone. I found a cab in Sacramento that im going to get on Friday. Ive looked high and low for some info on how to remove the cab and install a new one. Im wondering if anyone has done this before or could shed some light on the project. I will try to add some pics as soon as i figure out how. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time, Jeff

Remove steering rod from steering box, remove shifters, loosen fuel filler neck from body, disconnect speedocable and 4wd indicator harness, disconnect all connections from body to motor and frame, disconnect brake lines, remove bodymount bolts, disconnect the harness to the fuel tank and back of truck.

Thats all I can remember right now.

Basically disconnect anything that goes through any part of the cab.

i have to do the same thing and from what i can see once you pull out all of the wires and likage you need to cut the inner fenders off and reweld them on. but that looks like the only hard part to me.
Chicks dig body damage!
build it to beat it!

They are. Depending on how you have shock mounts setup you may have to do some modification.

Invite all your friends over to lift the cab off! Or get a forklift.

Just start at the front and start taking anything off.  Then work on the cab.  It's not hard, just time consuming.

Check into your local DMV and see what you have to do to get the rig licensed, since the cab and frame will have different VIN's.  Some states are very picky about this!!

last one I did ,I used my trusty sawzall, and just cut it into manageable sized pieces, removed them and when I went to put the new cab on I went to my local rental place and rented a set of camper jacks to put the new cab on
