engine mount trouble
« on: Aug 12, 2007, 12:02:31 PM »
I broke my drivers motor mount and got two motor mounts from autozone and have been trying to get these things in but they sit about a 1/4 inch from where they need to be to get the bolts through the holes.  Is there some sort of trick to getting these back in?

I have had to egg out the holes before to get them to work.

thats the trouble with autozone parts,  best bet  is  to  bolt it to the engine  then let the engine rest on the  frame, then  drill thru the crappy made part  to make the holes right

btw  if you have dual cases  youve GOT  to chain the mounts

I had this same problem with several different aftermarket mounts. The only ones that went in right were the original Toyota mounts, but they are expensive.

I have tried other aftermarket motor mounts and these are the closest to actually fitting. Do you have to go to a dealer to get the oem or someone online have them?

I've never had to egg out the holes.  When you replace one side, loosen the bolts on the other side as well. use a hoist to lift the motor a bit, bolt the new mount to the motor, then run the bolts through the holes (use longer bolts to do this if you want, then replace with the right bolts later)  when all 4 bolts (both sides) are lined up in ther holes, lower the motor down.  This forces the bolts to act as a guide, and lines up the holes for you.

BTW, I have rockstomper motor mounts.  I have had very little problems getting them lined up

Well I managed to get the driver side bolts in and was then able to use a comalong to pull the drivers side down into position.
