today i was driving around and for some reason my car started acting like it does when you go through water too fast and the engine starts to lug like crazy just about ten times worse. It seemed like a few injectors stop working or the feul pump just about stoped. so that left me cruising along at avout maybe 5mph. any ideas? :headscratch: :dunno:

i think it was from wheeling on the weekend cause i got stuck in about 4 feet of water and about a foot of that was in my car. i don't have a fuel pressure tester i will get on though.does the fuel pump just not pump out the fuel as fast when it is going out or does it just go out.

You had a foot of water in your cab? if so pull your ecu and get it dried out before you put power to it again-you may have already fried it, Sorry

still check it, that would explain your problem, See if you can get the codes from it first

i am still trying to get hold of a code reader. the weird thing is that the check engine light only comes on when the car hits a certian rpm then it just stays on after that still came on after i reset the computer. i drove it around today and it was fine but it only seems to happen the the engine is fully warmed up. hopefully just reseting the computer fixed it. :crossed:

I don't know on an 87 but on my 85 if you short the t-terminal under the hood(the one you short out when you set the timing) and turn the key to "on" (don't start the engine) the check engine light flashes. Count the flashes and it tells you the code #
I have a FSM for 85 and can tell you what the codes are, I doubt they changed them from 85 to 87

the check engine light just comes on then shuts off when i short thr t terminal and turn the key in the on position.

ok I went and looked at my manual. Engine off, trans in neutral, all accecories off, key on, then short the t terminal. Should go out then start flasing a code, then off for 4 seconds then flashes code again, & so on & so on, Like I said my manual & rig is 85 so yours may not work that way....hope this helps :headscratch:

also if you pulled the efi fuse or disconected the batery, you cleared the codes so run it again for a while and see if the light comes back on then check the codes.

yeah now it won't start all i'm getting is the open circut relay above the computer is clicking along with the starter relay. even when swaping out the computer, the open circut and the coil, the igniter the starter relay and the efi relay just does the clicking thing.

Is the starte turning over ? Or just a bunch of clicking ?
RUBICON TESTED BIG BALLS APPROVED

well i bypassed my starter to see if it would engage but it just spun and that was it. so i ripped it all apart and poured all of the water out but the starter was falling appart from all of the rust in there. I just went and bought a new one. and an efi fuse cause that was bad as well. runs fine now but my front diff is leaking a quart of gear oil a day. :(

yeah I'm planning to do the sas but i have to sell my 75 super beetle first. and then i plan on the 6" orbit-eye spring front and rear with orbit eyes in the rears of all 4 springs with 1" drop hanger in front. then I'll be running 1.5" lift shackles all around. then for shock absorbers i will be getting the blistien 7100 series 14" long travel shocks. and i better out flex my friends 97 wrangler with the skyjacker 8" coil over lift.  :crossed:
