Chevy Leaves?
« on: Apr 24, 2004, 08:29:19 PM »
Can someone give me a quick run down on the procedure, and where I can get the hardware for the conversion from?

63" Chevy springs from a 88-98 2 or 4wd, move front spring hanger 8-9 inches forward (let shackle angle determine that measurment) and either run double shackles or a longer single. If you use a single shackle you'll have to move the shackle hanger back like 4".  Get the springs at wrecking yards or theres always people selling them on various BBS.

Don't you chew up the hanger pretty good cutting it off?  I was wondering where to get some hanger's from too.  I saw marlin's new fangled hangers, but I don't think those will work.

Downey has a cantilever shackle which will bolt right up.  Kyota, thanks, I haven't done a lot of fabricating, but this job seems to be simple enough for me to tackle.  I appreciate the help.

Make sure you get the shackles from the Chev truck with the springs and then fab the second set, easy stuff.

a little observation...on my '79 longbed, the rear shackle hanger sits  right on the edge of where the frame boxing ends.  is it like that on everybody else's trucks?

Ok, so if I run single shackles, I need to move the shackle hanger back as well as moving the spring hanger forward, right.  But, I could do double shackles as well.  Would a buggy leaf set-up work too?  Or would this be pointless?

For the double shackle I have seen some people use a lowering kit shackle for the one that lays on the frame and a lift shackle form that to the spring  :dunno:

Will the lift from the Chevy rears match the lift of the 44044's up front? cause that's what I purchased for the front. :)

Same set up on mine and I added about an inch worth of block but built that inch into the spring perches I made

go with the single shackle..the double set up is ok but loud and will unload..That sucks going up or down hill..The mounts for the front can be bought through budbuilt.com and there pretty sweet..nice angle on them to slide up and down rock..The marlin ones are sweet too but there built to french into the frame..i like that other then its more work then I wanted so I went with bud on that..Get the rear shacke mounds from allpro..They ghave the jonny joint mounts that are sweet as hell..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

Built mine just like Bud's, the nice thing about Bud's though is they have alignment pins to locate them on the frame. I spent awhile on mine measuring to get them right on.
