compression and travel on stock front D.S.
« on: Feb 21, 2007, 10:40:50 AM »
Ok people mt O.C.D. is kicking in. I have an 81 toy I just put long travel 6" springs in front now that I have found the yokes that I need I am getting ready to build my front drive line but I am not sure of how much compresion and extension to leave for it to slide with out coming apart or compressing all the way. All I do is slow crawling its not a dune jumper. I was doing some measurements last nite and thought about 3" of compression and the rest for extension but as of right now I don't remember how much extension I had. Keep in mind it is a stock length spline so can anyone give me advice with buying marlins 8" slip yoke. 8" slip yoke is in the future just cant do it now.....

Ramp it with the pass side on the ramp, measure flange to flange then measure it on flat ground. That will give you an idea of how much compression you need. Leave a little for the "unknown factor" and use the rest for drop.

I had a square shaft before and had NO problems with it what so ever plus it was a lot cheaper I made it out of 2.5x.25 and 2.0x.25 think that is a little heavy i think this time I might go 2.0x.25 and 1.5x.25 make it a little liter. Any suggestions???
