Cheap 1" rear Travel trick for stock Tacos
« on: Apr 22, 2006, 07:49:40 PM »
Heres what you got stock. as you can see theres very little room between the bracket and top leaf

Use a long strong flat head screwdriver or pry bar to lift bracket up a little

Take your screw drive and pop off the plastic piece. they are no longer needed.

As seen in this photo there is already a hole so no need to drill.

Take a pair of channel locks,vise-grips,or some type of pliers to bend up bracket.

Here you will need a rod or screw driver thats strong and just small enough to fit in the pre-existing hole.
Put the tool in the hole and press down.it will probaly bend the whole bracket down, you then use a hammer to get it back up.

Here is what it should look like after you bend them down and beat them back up.

Here it is.Finished and ready for fun.

~Tools needed:strong flat screwdriver or prybar, some sort of pliers(channel locks and vise-grips),ratchet and wrench.
~Parts needed:4 Grade8 3/8 x 3 1.5" bolts
4 Grade8 3/8 nylon locking nuts   (home depot does not sell grade 8 bolts lowes does)
~Total cost: $11
Any questions or ideas please Post Or PM. GOOD LUCK

That's a nice "old" trick for any leaf spring vehicle. It does provide for a little more down travel, what you should have done is took a couple before and after travel pictures so the noob's would see how much extra they'd get out of that little trick. I do like that you put the bolt in there to keep the pack from over extending, most people just open them up and leave them that way.

Nice cheap trick.
