 Hey I was wondering whats a good compression reading on a 22re. I found one with 167 across the board with 200,000 miles
Everyone starts off in life crawling but lots of us grow up and still are crawling around everywhere

142 -171 psi on 22R and 22RE

I believe they have 172 stock on the early ones and 182 on newer ones,  and they recommend rebuilding at around 125 or so.  You peaked my curiosity now, gonna hafta test my 350,000 miler soon and see where it's sittin.    Nate

I've seen more bottom ends go out before the compression gets bad enough to where the engine won't run..If you can hear it run your better off,,check the oil and liten for knocks..

i dunno, when i bought the '82 22R that i just put in my truck, the rings were completely toast while the bottom end was so nice the machine shop didn't even touch the crank.

Rod knock is pretty common in these motors (like Mr4x42u said) along with blown head gaskets.  A 22r motor will develop a rod knock when revved above 4k consistently, ask me how I know lol.
