I'd say after many camping trips in both gen's, the 2nd gen would get my vote. (More room and space to stuff your gear.) With the correct build they are both virtually unstoppable.
More room in a 2nd gen
What? Its the same as a 1st gen. The only reason a 1st gen is better other than a straight axle, because we'd all swap that in, in a heart beat, is the removable top. You get to ditch unnecessary weight.
And beside, the 4 door soccer mom thing just doesn't work for me.
