the starting problem is my 85 and the holding a charge is my 87 i have two trucks. so there for i have two differant problems sorry for the mix up. i ran a wire from the battery to a push button and a wire from the starter to that same button and i have to turn the key over to start and push that button down to start my truck. so basically i am jump starting the starter every time. and on my 87 they problem is holding a charge.
