  The turbo 350 is a good tranny.. I would go with a 327 in the tacoma.. That's a 302 with 350 heads, cheap horse power, lots of snap when you need it.. Great little engine, with high power to weight ratio...Not  great for large heavy trucks, but great in a ranger/S-10/tacoma size truck.


I believe a Chevy 302 is a 283 crankshaft put into a 350, so that you have a big bore, short stroke  that would give you some quick revs and some top end power. Not a torque monster. But, if you build it right, ( and throw a lot of money at it) you can get 10,000 rpms out of it.
