Mikey, please tell me that you weren't using a chunk of railroad tie, ontop of a steel brick, on top of a bucket for a jackstand (last picture in your shackle sequence).

    

You're close - actually its a 3 ton jack, then two 2" aluminum bars I found, and then a piece of 4x4 wood. It was the only way to get the jack high enough to reach the frame. I did however place some quarters on both sides of the wheels of the jack so that it won't move
