my Pit bull Rocker radial review
« on: Mar 12, 2011, 03:28:04 PM »
Thanks to my sister's large tax return this year I am the proud new owner of some 35-12.50-15 PitBull Rocker radials.

First I must say these tires present themselves very aggressively.  Ive had guys follow me into the grocery store or parts store to ask me what they are and where they can get some.

On the hwy they are much quieter than any mtr ive ever seen.  they handle better driving at 70mph than my sisters Suburban does with her 265/75/16's.   Ive got around 300 miles on them so far but only one little mud play time, though six inch deep mud in 2wd. :)

more to come.   :driving:

Nice...  We've have seen these in action at out 4x4 trials event and they are really effective tires.  They get misunderstood alot because when you air them down, you have to REALLY AIR THEM DOWN for them to act aired down.  I want a set for my 4Runner project...

I'll have to double check that tomorrow.

thats how the bias Rockers were cause my friend Josh ran some for a while.  these radials give some slight bulge with 35 psi in them.   I'll be dropping that to 25 tomorrow.

I went through some deep (foot deep red clay) mud today and realized i could still make forward progress by idling in 4lo, crawlbox in hi, and first gear.  and even could hold my position on the slightly off camber slick trail without sliding down.  I even backed up through the deep hole and took 2 different lines at idle and still crawled through the deep mud.

over 500 miles on them and they are a little louder now but still ridiculously quiet for such an aggressive tire and at 28psi front and 25psi rear they ride GREAT.  I think they would be very nice and spongy at about 15psi for the trail :disturbed:

My BFG Mud KM2 tires were smooth as glass when new, but like all mud tires start to ride terribly after a few thousand miles.  I'll be interested to see how yours are doing around 10k.

The only set that I've been around on the trail didn't seem that impressive to me, but there are a lot more factors that just the tires that make a rig perform on the trail so I can't be sure that the tires were at fault.

Aren't they a heavy tire?  I chose my BFGs over Toyo's because of the weight difference.

I think most guys misunderstand pitbulls.  We have had a few wheel on our trials course and they need like 3psi to act aired down where alot of tires would be happy traction at 10-15 psi.  Of course those were the bias, but I think that's why they get a bad rap.  Aired way down they are awesome.

thats the bias ply tires cause these radials mold to the terrain very nicely.

they are a heavy tire for sure.  my 35-12.50-15's on 15x10 Eagle alloy weigh 106 pounds mounted and aired up.  Ive noticed a noticeable difference in my 0-60 times but I do have a hiccup in my carburator that i need to tear into soon.

thanks Mike,  I gotta say they look much better than the bias rockers did and I think my size (6 ply) rides far better.

I need to get some more pics of them in action.

Whats the life expectancy of these tires for those of us who daily drive our rigs? I read on pitbull's website stating that their Bias ply outlast either their radials or other company's radials (don't quote me on that) Any ways let us know will these be worth the money for a daily driver?

Ive wanted a set of those tires since the first time I saw them.
Those look so much wider than a 12.50 in the pictures. They do look darn good though!

Well I've seen guys at our crawl competition get traction with side lugs on sharp pieces of rebar sticking out of broken sharp concrete chunks with them.  I'm sure it's possible to tear the sidewalls on something given the right conditions, but from what I've seen they hold up as good as any of the competition.  I don't have a set to personally abuse just yet but when I do I'll post the results...

Thanks for the info. 79coyotefrg Keep us updated on how these tires do honestly if I didnt buy my mtrs. Then it would have been the 37 in PB rockers.
