Rebuild of hackjob 93 ex cab. Selling/trading?
« on: Dec 05, 2010, 10:59:41 PM »
So I picked up a 93 ex cab that was sas'd a while back. I traded my 90 ifs 3.0 auto 4runner for it. The truck is a 22re, 5 speed. It has a bobbed bed. That was all the goods about it. Rest was hacked up to hell. They took a lift off a 79-85 truck and "built it" to fit. They cut off the stock brackets for the rear leafs and moved them closer to fit the smaller 1st and 2nd gen springs. They built their own front hanger out of angle iron and cut the frame all funny and built their own tubes. It also has a 3" body lift. Gears were missmatched with 5.29s up front and 4.10s out back. I took the 4" lift off it and sold it to rockrescue on here for his 85, sold the 5.29 3rd on craigslist.

So heres the runner I traded for it.

heres the truck the day I got it what it looked like On bald 38s worn down to 35s so that tells you how tall it was.

So lil time went on and I dropped it down some I took the front springs off, and put on a stock rear pack from a 87 ex cab 4x4. I took off the bald 38s and sold them also.

Here is some pictures of the hacked up hanger and junk up front and the shackel Angle I had before the ruf.

Then I sold the lift kit, so I put on stock rear springs off a 85 for now. Till I figure out what I'm doing to the rear. It still has the 3" body lift. I put in 4.30 gears, and picked up a set of 35x12.5r15 bfg mts.

It flexs ok

So here I am now. I got Some new parts waiting to go on. I got a front hanger kit, shock hoops and shocks. And a few other lil things. I'm gonna be starting to cut off all the junk up front tomorrow night. I'll at least get the axle off, and the shock towers and the rest of the ifs brackets they left. I'll be sure to get plenty of pictures off all the junk they did that is not even safe. Since I've had this truck I've only drove it .8 miles around the block 2 times and 6 blocks total to work the other day just to charge up the battery check out how it runs and keep the brakes from seizing up. Its going to be a slow build right now as I'm working 2 jobs, moneys tight around xmas time and I got a few bills to pay off but it will be a steady project. Hate it if you want it is what it is. It will eventually be up to standards.

both, what u gonna do about frame tubes? looks to be rusted around spots? or is it just surface rust? could plate it first, and drill through plate

For the frame tubes I'm gonna try to grind and get out whats in there, and plate up the frame. Its all surface rust and looks like crap, all the rust you see there is from the metal they used in the tubes they did not even paint over what they did there just left it. I'm trying to figure out what to plate em up with but I will find out tomorrow when everythings off and getting cleaned up.

So me and BoG-ToY started on it today. I got a late start at 5pm we only worked till about 8pm. Got the front hanger cut off, and one home made frame tube cut out. Gonna hit it up friday morning and saturday afternoon. And hopefully all day monday and have it back rolling monday.

Here is some pictures:

Homemade hanger:

Their stupid shock towers they had on, looks like stock ones maybe off ifs?:

Home made frame tubes out of small pipe, they cut a bushing down and shoved it in there to:

Well got the hanger cut off and new one mocked up:

And the frame tube we got cut out still need to clean it up:

Still lots of cleaning up to do and building or finding new motor mounts because of this:

More work to come!

The shock towers look like stock solid axle shock towers to me, The truck looks almost like mine in the pic when you first lowered it and put it on the BFG's...

If you ever get rid of the good BFg's you have let me know...It looked like 2 were bald and 2 were alright. I trashed one of mine and cant find a good one.

Looks liek your starting to make solid progress though. keep it up.

build your springs.. I think built springs always work good. maybe not as much up travel as lift springs but you can get it lower with a good amount of rigibility by that I mean no axle wrap and they last a long time.

Im so tossed up right now on what to do. I was going to do ruf, with the main leaf from a 2nd gen pack, then do a s10 pack mixed in with the 2nd gen pack. And I wanted to do 63s out back but I dont want huge leafs. f150s are a thought but I don't really know how much real lift they give.

I run f150s rear (3rd gen shortbed)
ran 42s with some trimming.
I love the f150s and would not go any other way,
unless linked

F150's are deffinately the way to go. I got the springs and the ubolt flip kit (the factory Ford U-bolt and plate) from a pick and pull junkyard and made my own front spring mount and I did it all for a grand total of $41.Not bad for a rear 4 inch spring lift.

Bump where's the progress
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

yeah they do alright. he got stuck but im not allowed to post pictures. reverse pinned and dragging dont work to well. oh well 5 mins with a jack some wood and grass and we were out. i would not recomend it though i spent 2+ hours washing sand off the car. and made the exhaust leaks worse. so $$$ down the drain for new exhaust for accord truck should be done soon well rolling at least and maybe some snow pictures soon. I hope.
