Hey everyone, i havnt been on the forum in a few years and i am finally getting back into some old toyota truck projects again. I recently picked up a 1980 4x4 Long bed with a built 20r/22r hybrid engine. It is setup with a D.U.I. ignition system. The previous owner did not put an aftermarket tach in the vehicle or try to make the original tach in the SR5 cluster work.
I spent some time messing with it yesterday, tried a few things hoping to connect the DUI system to the original wiring to make the factory tach function.
I was not successful so this is why i started the thread. I did some searching on the forum first and did not come up with any helpful info.
So my question is- Does anyone here have any experience getting a DUI system to work with the factory tach? Does anyone know if it can even be done that way? Any and all info would be appreciated!

Here are some pics of the truck i picked up and the engine setup.

I'm wondering if it's the same as using a GM ignition module, where you have to use a 1000 Ohm resistor in the circuit.

It could be. I tried wiring the tach signal wire on the original wiring harness of the truck directly to the signal output connection on the DUI and it did not work.
I wired up an aftermarket tach to the output connection on the DUI distributor and it works just fine. I just wanted to make sure i was using the correct pin on the DUI first.

Has anyone done this before? Hoping to find someone that can help out!

Their website says they are using GM HEI ignition parts, which is the module I have connected to my Toyota coil.  The 1K Ohm resistor works great, and I have compared the accuracy with a timing light.

I thought for sure it was a 10k ohm resistor. But it has been 13 years since I had my V-8 truck. If that doesn't work you can buy a tach adapter from Dakota Digital. It will convert the high voltage signal to low voltage. It can also convert a v-8 signal to a 4 cyl signal. I used one on my diesel swap. It's pretty easy to hook up.

It works in my 80. I just took the two wire out of the oem distributed plug connector and plunged them into the dui. I'll double check this weekend.

Yeah if you could take a look at exactly how you hooked it up and which wires you used, that would be great!  Both of the wires i tried on the factory harness did not give me any good results.
