I do a lot of my hunting on the river out of a boat, so the guns simply stay in a case. I also do quite a bit of dog hunting, whether it be quail, deer, rabbit, coon, whatever. In my taco I have plenty of a room and a cheap plastic gun rack on the rear window. In the 1st gen there just isn't any room. I end up having to throw the 870 in a hard case and toss it in the bed. I've recently gotten a little wards western field 6 round riot gub with a 20" barrel. I've gotten it all cleaned up and re done the stock ans pump grip. It's a sweet shooter and I would like to find a rack that fits the little window of a 1st gen so it could be displayed on the way to the field or when on a dog drive for deer. Any ideas of a company that makes one?

I'm 16 years into the same dilemma and have always laid them on the passenger seat or behind the seats, but with a bass tube behind me there's not much room.  I do not see an option for a normal gun rack, I think you'd hafta drill through the cab and through bolt it.  I ran mine under the window in my old nissan 720

The issue for our smaller trucks is that there is no room for a gun rack.  Like Nate said, I too had one in my old Nissan 720.  There was some meat to screw one into above and below the rear window.  But I kept banging my head on it.  So, I hated it.  Toyota, there isn't anything in the ceiling or in rear cab without bolting it all the way thru the sheetmetal.  There are dash mounted options.

I always wanted to put one behind the seat, but like Nate too, I have speakers back there and no room for anything else.

Been thinking of a setup for in my toolbox.  I don't like to advertise what I have in my vehicle.  Takes all the temptation away.  I have a concealed handgun lic, for this very reason, not for being able to pack, but I don't have to have my stuff shown to the whole world.  Because we all know how easy it is to steal a Toyota.

I'm with yall,I have 4 6x9s behind the seat, toolbox loaded with junk ans tools. I'll figure something out for a rack. I almost always have a passenger when we go on a drive.

If you have the room behind your head, you could try this Allen 18500 Car Gun Rack, it is a wedge style rack, but is out of metal, so you should be able to modify it for it to work.  Or, if you didn't want to use it as wedge type, fab up some legs out 3/4x3/4 angle iron, or 1" round/square tube and mount them to the floor, and use the factor jack bar mount to help stabilze them if they move to much just mounted to the floor.

If you were willing to fabricate one you could make one that attaches to the headrest bars.  :dunno: just an idea.

Have you ever ridden in a 1st gen lol? I'm only 5'8" and the seat is as far back as she can go, removed head rest to get it to kean back a little further. Good idea for sure though. I can't wait till my kids are of driving age so my son can take this one over and I can focus on finding a crew cab 1st gen. Much more room for activities.

I thought you were just supposed to put 15 Arab kids in the back to hold your guns.  Always wanted to do some sort of a parade float like that with a bunch of kids in the back of my tan 1st gen.  I don't think it would be taken very well these days though.

Ironically I am currently daily driving LittleSteves first gen which I used to own. I guess I just figured that if you were considering installing a gun rack in a first gen then you must have the room for it.   :smack:

I wish I had room for it. I wish they had made an extra cab 1st gen that would be the ticket. Im not about to cut one in half and make one though. So I take it you put a transmission in it?

Steve put the transmission in it when he was still here then drove around in it for a few days before he had to fly back.

i would think your best bet would be vertically between the seats where your center consol would be or roof mounted infront of your head but if it hangs down too far it will be in your line of sight.

i strapped a gun scabbard to the passenger seat in my first gen so it was on the inside of the seat anf hung my 17hmr in it for one trip. that worked OK but it was barrel down and stock up so i was a little nervous about it bouncing around on the muzzle.

this between the seats could be an option:

that is one of the many reasons i sold my 1st gen for a t100

They are quite small, but I will never sell it. It will be one of those piles of crap that gets passed down to the next generation. I held the metal 2 gun rack up in there and I believe it will work. I'm not drilling holes in the cab, so I'm scratching my noggin on different ways to secure it.
