20r oil from breather filter
« on: Aug 12, 2015, 08:21:44 AM »
I recently did a minor rebuild on my 20r. Gaskets, seals and timing chain set up. A friend of mine suggested capping off the front breather hole on the valve cover and just putting a filter on the rear. Yesterday I noticed oil bubbling out of the filter. I assume I should not cap off the front hole?
I've noticed some guys put a hose from the rear hole to the air cleaner.

you may have blow by from worn piston rings or valve seats....

if the baffle under the valve cover is there, there is really no reason oil should be splashing up and able to saturate that filter

I'll check that. A friend of mine helped rebuild it, and I'm wondering if maybe it got taken off and not put back on.

So today I was able to take a look at the truck. I went out and took the filter off the valve cover and the unblocked the front hole (pcv?)
and turned the truck on. I felt a decent amount of pressure coming out. I read some other blow by threads, some in which you commented.
You mentioned that engines are just a compressor and are sealed. Maybe I just have a bad pcv or baffle? I don't want to misdiagnose the issue
and end up blowing the motor.

Put a hose and a catch can on it and see how much oil comes out.

A DIY version should be fine.
