R151F pushing fluid out breather
« on: Apr 16, 2019, 09:40:04 PM »
I’m concerned about fluid my transmission has started pushing out it’s breather. I had no metal in the fluid, tcase and transmission input/output seals appear to be good and it’s certainly not overfilled. I’m concerned it’s overheating, but that doesn’t make logical sense either. Short of tearing this thing down right before Cruise Moab, what is the collective knowledge and experience here?

Add a hose and put the open end much higher.

The hose already runs up the firewall. Not sure how much higher I can get it.

are you sure it's not the transfer case overflowing? I had that happen when the transmission rear seal went out, it pumped it's fluid into the transfer case overfilling it.

That is what happened with my '91.

I would drain both the trans and t-case, chances are one will be short on fluid and the other will be over filled,

I’m 90% sure. The tcase is freshly rebuilt and I’m not seeing fluid in the cavity between the two

Might be that the oil is foaming up. (aerating) What type/viscosity are you using? Could be moisture somehow getting into the case? Has it been submerged?
