Windshield wiper cowling removal
« on: Jul 25, 2015, 06:43:35 PM »
I'm sick and tired of leaves in my fan motor.

So I want to put a stainless steel strainer (99cent store) over the opening under the cowling.

Looks like I remove the windshield wiper arms and  there's about 3 screws attaching it to the firewall. (86)   And it hooked under the window somehow.

Is that it?        Is it that easy, or is there some hidden trick?

Thanks
Ed

if I remember correctly, it is just a few bolts, and it is kinda angled in to get up under... go just those few bolts and it should come out

I pulled some factory cowl screens from the wrecking yard when I got my pickup, it still leaves a couple openings under the cowl but should help some. The cowl is held on with I think 3 screws but also 2 or 3 plastic clips that can hold pretty tight. I used this tool http://www.amazon.com/Removal-Pliers-Domestic-Foreign-Forgemax/dp/B009WG296Q

Finally got around to remove it.

Broke one of the plastic pop rivets.     I think I'll make them all screws.

Anyway,   there's a subpanel that's not removable (or at least not easily) that has a panel over the fan opening.

So my screen mesh over the fan opening isn't going to work because I can't get to it.

I'll probably put some stainless screen over the openings on the subpanel....
