Decided to start a build thread since things are happening with this project finally.  My first time building a Toyota/wheeler,  I'm starting with an 87' 4Runner I picked up a few years back.  22RE, 5 speed, V6 rear third w/4.56s open, IFS welded.  Here's what it looked like when I towed it home...

First thing I did was fix the brakes, added a 1" master and some stainless lines...

Drove it for awhile then scored some FJ wheels and some 255/75/17 BFG take offs from a J**p...

So last week I pulled out the rear suspension/axle...

Started mock up on some Chevy springs, used the RuffStuff Chevy spring install kit...

Once I was happy with the springs I got the new axle under for mock up using RuffStuff 2+ perch kit...

Specs on rear axle:
FJZ80 third (9.5" ring gear)
5.29 gearing
ARB
Diamond housing, 63" WMS, full floating
vented rotors w/V6 calipers
ARP hub studs
added extra dowels
Front Range Off Road Drive flanges
Chrome-moly shafts

And that's where I'm at.  Should have the rear all welded up by the end of next week.  Once I finish up the rear I'll be moving to the front and cutting out the IFS to make room for this...

To be continued...

Sounds like you have been following build as I used the same rear axle.
What are the specs on the front end?

High pinion (8 in.), ARB w/5.29s. OG Longfields, Marlin crossover w/25mm pins, 63in. WMS.  Was originally going to run leaf springs up front but have gone away from that idea.  I figured once it was done and I wheeled it with the leaf setup I was going to want to link it.  So rather than do the front twice I'm installing a 4 Wheel Underground 3 link.

I purchased the front axle about a year before the rear.  At some point in that year I decided a V8 would be put into it in the future, so I got the FJ80 rear.  I'm a long ways from the V8, lol.

No real progress this week.  Welder is out of town until Sunday, so maybe Monday we'll get this junk welded up.  I did order a chrome-moly 23 spline input for my t-case, last piece I needed to be 23 spline through my crawl box and t-case.

I opted to tig weld the perches onto the axle housing due to the fact they don't use the traditional u bolts, the welds are what keep them there.  So the axle is at the welders shop getting tigged up, waiting for the call to pick it up...... :turtle3:
