Yup yup!    I have had the HP diff for a while now though.  So, yes, perfect excuse.

Lol, good news is my welds held.  Bad news the frame did not.  Longer lever arm from the shock mount.  Plus, not welding along the top probably did help either.

Weld/ damage diagnosis required.
Come on boys, let’s hear what We all think caused this.

I suspect to much heat during the welding process?
Weakening the the frame material.
Can We see a good picture of the tear out.

Why do you suspect that?  There are so many factors. Fitup, weak frame metal from years of deterioration, welding issues, etc...

Probably all of the above.  Once the truck dries out and I get time when it's not raining all day....I'll take a gander.  If my shock bracket went all the way across or was gusseted at the top may have worked out better. 
Never thought about weakening the metal but it's possible?   I am using a flux core welder.  Plus the bracket is quite thick verses the frame material.

I am by no means an expert of anything.  I imagine at the time I concentrated on the thick metal and then drug the puddle to the thinner material.  Knowing how much hotter flux core can be. 

I believe the bigger shocks, Rancho 9000 something or others, did a fantastic job damping oscillations.

Interesting.  Guess I'll keep that in mind next time.

I spent the afternoon welding in a roll cage in my son's rig.  Hopefully it'll hold together better than my shock mount....

It's just an old Traxxas 1/10 Slash chassis my son has.  Gonna have to make custom mounts but it'll fit.
