I have been busy working on my 99 4Runner so this thing has gotten neglected...

But now my older son is almost 16 and I figured I would let him drive the 87.. So we started sanding it down to get it ready for a fresh coat of white.. Don't want to drive to high school with a ghetto ride... I'm really impressed with how hard he worked on it. I was disassembling as much as I could while him and his little brother sanded. A few more hours of prep and this thing will be ready.

This poor thing has been neglected for a long time. Finally got around to doing some final prep before paint on this.

I would love to change the color but I don't want to deal with jambs and engine compartment so it will be a white wash :)

I think they look good in white.  I might even paint mine tan one day.

Im happy with white.. my 3rd gen is white so they match. My brother wanted to paint it tan like the new Tacoma's... cool color!

chim

Finally got some paint done this last weekend...

Im not super happy with the paint but it looks better than it did.. so I will just roll with it for now..

Next weekend we will get it put back together and out in the light.

Got the runner outside tonight and drove it home.. it hasnt been moved in 6 months.. it was low on oil and water and needed a jump but fired up and drove great.. I miss driving this!

Paint turned out semi-gloss which I'm not super stoked about but it still looks good and maybe after the paint has fully cured it will buff out some and get shiny.

This weekend should be fun though. I am going to make my 16 year old work on everything if he wants to drive it. So we will be putting this back together and getting it road worthy again this weekend :)

And tucked away in the garage for now...

chim

Got the front end put back together with new bumper ends and mirrors. Tail gate put back together except the emblems for now.

Things to do at this point:
1. Weld rear bumper side brackets back on so I can fully install rear factory bumper and mud flaps.
2. Cut off exhaust and weld stock exhaust on.
3. Change oil.
4. Put updated stereo in with new stereo bezel.
5. Put rear emblems on.
6. Install interior LED's.

I basically just plan on maintaining this runner and letting my 16 year old son drive it for school.

THAT Is perfection. So simple, solid white with some old bullet hole wheels. I love it!

yeah... I have no idea why someone would do an exhaust like that... ugh.. dumb!

I know this is not much of a "mod" or a extreme update but its progress none the less.

I don't really weld but I have a small 110 wire feed welder and I needed to weld the bumper brackets back on for side pieces that I cut off a long time ago. I just did a bunch of tack welds so it didn't blow through and it worked well.. nice and solid and all the factory bumper trim lined up and bolted back on perfect.

Then I chopped that nasty two outlet exhaust off and pieced on a temporary exhaust until I decide I want to spend money to get it all welded up and routed properly. But this thing is cleaning up well and its nice keeping it simple and stock.

That looks really nice.
Can they still be adjusted? Dim them down?
They look really bright. Maybe even to much ? or just picture?

Prismo [06:11 PM]:   Done, time to relax or as Bestgen says....FREEDOM!
HogCanyonHopper [06:54 PM]:   I like my little rod. it gets the job done

No, they can not be dimmed. They are bright, but they are a clean bright. I like them because new cars are a clean bright and it doesn't bother me a bit. My other vehicles I have swapped to white and this blue is not as bright as those.

I have been teaching my son to drive a stick with this thing and he is getting better but its been kinda rough for a while there. My clutch took most the heat.. literally so now we get to change that out :)

Clutch actually didnt look that bad.. must have been weak..

Thought the rear main was leaking too but now that its opened up back there it looks good and is pretty dry. Leak must be coming from valve cover.

Cheesemaker

So, did you get a Marlin clutch?  I love mine!  I hammer on it, and slip it at stop lights all the time.  Sometimes I am harder on it than a 15 year old with a learners permit.  And it hooks up hard everytime.

haha, that's awesome :) Of course I got a Marlin Clutch, do it right the first time! I don't want to swap this out again anytime soon.. the older I get the suckier it is to climb up and down from under the vehicle!
