I've always heard studs are far superior to bolts for stuff like heads and headers and the like.  If I were buildin a motor, I'd use studs wherever possible.  Makes setting the head on the block alot easier, too, it'll line right up if you had studs.  ARP oughtta make some, as Mr. Rockwell stated.

don't resort to studs unless you have to. I'm talking 10lbs of boost or nitrous.
they're a pain in our trucks becuase you can't get the damn head on or off becuase the firewall lip and hte heater hoses conpire against you when you got  lift the head off and the studs don't let you pull the head forward and out.

Ah, I see, I never thought of that.  Good point.

I put the ARP studs on my truck when I did my head, and it's true they are a pain in the ass.  I had to just put the first 4 studs in to be able to get the head to clear the fire wall.  Then after I did that I installed the rest.  I have heard great things about them.  but if it is just a stock engine with out a turbo or nitros then I would just get some Toyota factory bolts and call it good.

i went with the studs for a simple reason -- whenever you have an aluminum head an iron block, the engine is going to be prone to gasket failure.  i feel a lot more comfortable torqueing my studs to 80lbs than i would torqueing 50 or whatever the head bolts are supposed to be at.

another nice thing about studs is that they make it almost impossible to screw up the threads in your block, unless you really screw up.  but  in that case you shouldn't be building an engine  :slap:

and if i ever blow my head gasket, i'm yanking the motor as well.  once you've gone as far as pulling the head, you might as well yank the whole thing and give it a good once over.
