« on: Oct 21, 2013, 05:10:45 PM »
1985 22RE 4Runner

Live in Florida.  No emission requirments.

I got the original Catalytic Converter still.

Should I....

1.) Remove and not replace
2.) Replace with OEM
3.) Replace with High Flow Cat

If I don't ask the stupid question, who will?

85 Runner, 22RE, AEM 'warm intake', TRD Cam, LC Headers, Dual Case, 5.29's, ARB Front Locker, Detroit Rear Locker, 35's, V6 Brakes, ARP Studs, Marlin Arms/Caps/Hy-Steer, Winch, Armor, Can-Back Top....and...

...more Gremlins than Gizmo the Mogwai was responsible for.

If it's not clogged up, just leave it.

I run a pacesetter header, 2 1/4'' through flowmaster 40 series to a 2 1/2'' tip on both of my yotas..... Works well for me!  :driving: :burnout:

Unless you are going to redo the whole system just leave it. Though you could fab a bolt in bypass since it is the original, I've done this and it provided no benefit at all.

I lived in a no smog regs. county when I had my last truck. I removed the cat and put larger pipe out the rear end with a summit performance muffler. It was super loud. People thought I was running a V-8 conversion. Didn't feel any performance gain and it was annoyingly loud....

You can replace it and sell the original one. Some companies pay the value of your catalytic converter.
Ecotrade for example https://www.catalyticconverterrecycling.com/

The OEM converter is stellar compared to the aftermarket ones out there. I think, imho, the aftermarket ones are junk. So even if you remove I’d hang onto it. Those older converters didn’t  have that much precious metal in them like the newer ones, so recyclers don’t give much for them anyway.
