Interesting idea, but I dunno??
« on: Mar 16, 2005, 12:07:55 PM »
I work at a consruction site, and I saw a 2nd gen toyota IFS out there, and the guy had sleeved his tie rods by just sliding some glvanized pipe over it.  He didnt bolt it down or anything, just cut it approximately right, and slid it on.  Seems like it might work to protect them, and keep them from bending a little, but would it really work?  It would be loud as all get out when  :driving: but I dunno, think it would work?  Yes, I know just get a Solid Axle, but I cannot do that for lack of funds and I would really like to particapte in the marlin roundup if it happens, and I would like to protect the steering as much as possible, at least I have a skid plate for it

that's really not the weak link I don't think. Don't be skeered, you'll be fine ;)

As for the sleeving it actually can make it WORSE depending on how it is done, all the stress is now concentrated to that one edge. If you do sleeve it make sure the edges of the sleeve are not cut straight (do them at a 45degree angle). I still don't think it is worth it..

Never seen a Total Chaos idler arm bend or break. They get beat on pretty hard when pre-running in Baja.
