« on: Mar 17, 2005, 11:22:57 AM »
Well just to get your guys'  :twocents:
I am getting a 85 Toyota soon and getting a Suzuki to screw around with this summer... Im goin to just green sticker the Zuk but still want to be able to drive it on the road. Has anyone ever Swapped plates? and has anyone got into trouble doing this? or is it sly enough to get away with? OR shoud I not even think about doin this?

well, if you swap plates dont get pulled over.  Its only when the plates are ran that it comes up, and as long as you avoid getting your plates ran, you'll be fine, but I think the penalty for swapping plates is pretty big.  I personally wouldnt risk it. :twocents:

I second that emotion, my buddy got nailed...his mommy had to go down to the station with the registration for the real vehicle the plate belonged to, then he got a fine.

If you are gonna wheel the sammy, why not get a v6 tacoma of something...cut as much weight as you can off it and you will be well within the towing capabilities of the toyota.  If I had realized what a pain it would be for me to work on my truck at my appt, I would have done it this way...?

Maybe not a good idea?
I don't know  :dunno:
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

I don't want to accuse "The Accused" of any wrong doing, but I hope you plannned on insuring that Sami before you drive it on the street. :yesnod:

I bought my old Sami so cheap ($500) it made more sense to get plates for it than a green sticker. The costs to register were under $100 and there are some places that prohibit or limit green stickered vehicles.  :)

I guess... I just wanted to see what you guys thought. Well looks like I'm goin to go the clean route... although I am not goin to drive it on the street very much. Do I still have to have plates if its offroad only and I trailer it to where ever I'm goin?

My guess is that you are from Cali  (you called it a"green sticker") so, you have to have plates for the street, even if you you don't drive it on the street "very much." Some of the Forrest Service roads and other areas in Cali prohibit green stickered vehicles or limit them to certain months of the year (low fire danger periods). If you trailer it to an area that allows green stickered vehicles, then you don't need plates, just the sticker.

I don't know the specs on the Toyota but the Sami weighs around 2,500 lbs. That plus the weight of the trailer is probably too much for a 4 cylinder truck.
