New here. My past and present projects
« on: Sep 15, 2013, 02:14:12 PM »
I started with a 86 Suburban, 3/4 ton, 4.56's gov lock in back, auburn in front. 4" lift, 36'' Swampers. 383 SBC, running around 400HP. I don't drive it any more mainly due to the 6 miles per gallon.
Went to the sand in Tillamook Oregon a lot also ran  a sandrail I built with a pumped up Mazda 13B Rotory.
I then built a 86 fourrunner 4'' lift 33'' pro comp tires. lost a rod in it. I rebuilt a 4.3 vortec to put in it. hasn't been done yet.
My new project is a 66 FJ40 landcruiser. with a 3 speed and a 300HP, 350 SBC.

My new plan is to take the axles, engine trans and transfer case (All the good stuff) Swampers, rancho 5000's and put in in the LC. Since I don't know much about LC's, I won't have much of a learning curve. I was almost thinking of just shortening the frame of the surburban and transferring the LC body. This will be a hunting rig.  Anyone's thoughts are welcome!

I grew up in Salem/Gresham. spent a lot of time at the sand. I live in Pville the last 6 years. love it! Great wheelin area here and the Mud is more like clay/Bentonite. you get taller when it's wet.
How's the Cheese? I know, It's awesome! it always is.

Nice - I grew up in Salem as well!  Haven't lived there in 10 years or so, but yeah, graduated from Sprague.

So I was checking out your build from july. looks good! You had a lot of grease to work with. Been there. It's better when it all clean though!
I kinda went through the same thing when I built my 4 runner. it's a 86. 4'' lift. built a fresh engine (22RE) ported and polished the intake and did a blend in the ports on the head. Centerforce clutch, Ran real good till it started to have a rod knock. It's been sitting ever since. (7 years)
I'll get back to it one of these days. Nice thing about the desert, you can let things sit and it's just about the same as you left it. just dusty!

Cool.  I love Central Oregon.   Especially the Bend area.     :beerchug:    I'm gonna try to get to the Groundhawg event again next year, just outside of Bend.

I haven't heard about the groundhawg festival. what is it?
I been working on my FJ40. Putting a quick set of block hugger headers on trying to get it ready for hunting. also got rid of the points dist. for a HEI. had to get the shorty plugs Accel makes for the end cylinders. still gotta put a electric fan on for idling around and a set of gauges. gas guage isn't working yet. and still have to get the soft top installed. I might have to do that after I get to hunting camp. Going to go look at a old upright Warn winch today. might need rebuilt but for $200. who cares? Ha! It's a 8000LB winch. Well, gotta get ready for work. gotta hour drive. I don't have any pics yet but I'll try to get some posted.

Just east of Bend in the China Hat area.  They have the Groundhog Rock Crawl event.  Pretty sweet setup.  Youtube "grounhog rock crawl" and there are some sweet vids.

Here is a link from last years event.  I didn't go this year.  I did rat hunting instead.
