Thats what i am wondering what to do.  Should i get another adapter and use that spare t-case i have?  Or should i just get a 4.7 to put in my rear case right now?  4.7 is $399 and shouldn't need anything else to install except oil.  adapter is $329 and would need both drivelines changed.  I can do the front by myself for free, but the rear would cost about $80-$100 to do.  I can just move back my skid plate and weld the plates for it to the frame (I have the Sky skid plate).  And then i would need more oil and another shifter since i don't have one.  Around $450-$500 for the new case altegether.  opinions please.

I say sell your spare case ($125-$150) and get the 4.7s. It'll be a lot cheaper, a lot less work and time down, and the 3rd case is excess in my opinion.

I can prolly only get about $50 for the t-case.  It is missing the shifter, speedo cable gear, and the rear flange.  really only good for someone doing dual/triple cases.

freds40

Still cheaper to complete than the triples.

Is spending that little bit more of money worth going that much slower?

4.7 and give the spare case too me, in hopes that I do a dual case setup soon

what kind of angle would that put your rear d-line.  Just go 4.70 and dont have to worry about another t-case to protect under there

oddball

Though triple cases would be the shizzle, Id go with the 4.7s, for a while at least

depending what trans you have and gears you can look at it this way.

With duel cases   2.28 case up fron  4.7 case in rear  5.29 gears and a 3.93 1st gear your crawlratio is 223.1

With triple cases all with 2.28 gears and 3.93 1st gear and 5.29 gears your going to be about 246.1

so now you know whats lower,,and you know what your going to spend either way..I almost say triple,,but thats because I only know one person running triples,,and being different is not so bad..

Of course I'm gonna tell you that a Triple setup is sweet and its very uncommon and hence has a huge :bling: factor.

But if you think about it, there's really no advantage to going triple unless you go with a triple setup with at least 1 set of 4.70 gears.

To be what you are right now, you will always have two levers in low. Then you will be moving one lever to achieve your 246:1 ratio.

With an Ultimate, you can still be about what you are now with just the single 4.70 engaged (98:1 vs 108:1), and yet you will still only have to move one lever to achieve your 223:1 ratio.

And in the real world, a difference of 23:1 when you are over 200:1 is like turning your idle down to 700 rpm instead of 800 rpm, its negligible.

The Ultimate will save you apprx. 40 lbs over the triple setup.

Sure the triple is :bling: but I dont think it would be worth it unless you had plans on adding some 4.7s to at least one case in the future.

I'm running triple, but its only because I've got a set of 4.70s. If I was 2.28x2.28x2.28, then I would have just gone with an Ultimate and saved my money on the driveline work.

Don't you have to grind the inside of the case and do a bunch of other crap to put 4.7s in?  I don't think you can just slap them in real quick.  Tripples would improve your front driveshaft angle also.

mr4x42u

yes,,the case needs to be clearanced but its pretty easy..

Also the a Dual case setup already improves the front driveshaft angle, and to tell you the truth, with my short bed, my front drive line is about 5 inches longer than my rear because of the tripple setup. So actually I am more worried about hitting my front driveline than my rear.

But his truck is an Extra cab, which = long bed wheel base, so the tripple setup might make his drivelines about the same length which would be sweet-

Im thinking i might just go with a 4.7 and try to sell the extra case.  Like you said, a difference of 20:1 isn't that great.  clearancing the cases shouldn't be that hard.  I got all the tools i need at our shop at school.

Thats whats cool about my runner...I can use the front shaft in the rear if i got in a jam...The extra long travel front shaft works well..

I did the switch to 4.7's in one nite. You only need a bench grinder for the shifter parts and a 3" cut off wheel works well for the case. Besides who needs 4 transfercase shifters asuming you have a dual shifter in the rear case. Keep is simple, stay dual with the 4.7's in the rear.  :twocents:

I wish I had room for duals. :drooling:

Looks like i will be paying only $150 for the 4.7.  My parents are going to pay for the other $300 for my 18th birthday present.  BTW, my birthday is on the 29th.  Then i will have enough money for some rocklights.    :disturbed:

Just read through the instructions.  It doesn't look that hard to do.

I have read through two different installation instructions and they siad to use sealer on the gaskets.  What kind of sealer?  Ultra Grey, Form-A-Gasket, or?

BigMike

No, put the gaskets on DRY. Use some brake clean and a rag and wipe down all mating aluminum surfaces to remove any oils, and then put the paper gasket on dry.

If you were to ever put sealer on a paper gasket, NEVER use any kind of silicone. We have some Gasket-Sinch (sp?)  at the shop that we sometimes uses.

BigMike
