New steering box troubles
« on: Aug 29, 2013, 04:22:31 PM »
I have been driving my truck with lots of play in the steering for awhile. In my preparations for the round-up and assosiated drive down to CA i decided to fix it and ordered a rebuilt box from MC. So I just installed it feels like there is no power assist. Any sugestions? I followed the factory service manual guidelines step by step. Details about my rig are in the signature.

Did you bleed the system, including the steering box?

As oops said, sounds like there is air in the system. Make sure the high pressure line is in good shape and the fittings are tight (hose running from the pump to the steering box).

That's what I thought too. The fittings on both ends of the high pressure line are tight and dry. Reservoir is full of fluid. I turned from lock to lock many times to purge the system. Still no improvement. Is there a way of bleeding the system besides turning to wheel from lock to lock with the engine running? I of course did this with no vehicle weight on the front axle.
