Half Door Question
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:34:16 AM »
Ive seen some of the half doors on this forum and I have to say they are awesome. My question is how do you relocate the door handle and door latch. Or is there some other way to get them open and close. Is it extremely hard to relocate.

There's many different ways to relocate a door latch. The way I planned to do it was to buy two front brake cables for a BMX bike and just fab up a bracket to secure it to the door latch. Then use the extra interior door latches from the doors you cut up and mount them wherever you please inside the door. It's a pretty simple job 8).  You could always just leave a small opening where the latch is inside the door and just reach your hand in and manually open the door . Easy as pie

Here's mine. Starting at reply #144. I reused the stock rod fro the original handle and just bent it. It's stiff enough to still unlatch the door with the handle down lower. Makes the door easier to open from inside so you don't have to reach rearward from the seat.

One thing you do want to do is make it so the latch will not lock anymore!!!!

I made mine to still have a functioning lock cylinders with keys so there is further reduced access to the lock boxes in mine which adds a little more security. Fool proof? Not by any means. I just liked having the added functionality. :cheese: :beerchug:
