T-case help...
« on: Jun 08, 2002, 12:05:31 PM »
I have wasted two t-cases in less than a year, in both the rear bearing has ruined the rear output shaft housing (wallered it out ). The bearing was spinning in the housing. the last t-case only lasted three months, I've checked the driveshafts, they appear to be ok.         Does anyone have any "good" ideas of what is causing this?I had a 4" skyjacker lift ,5:29's, in a 85 toyota reg.cab 4 cyl. stock t-case,Marlin tranny...only been running on 5" All Pro springs about 550 miles. All the help/advice is greatly appreciated....    Thanks Phil

Wow Phil,

I would really blame your driveline either its out of balance or its too long and is bottoming out and applying pressure to the output shaft at an angle.
Does the slipjoint on the rear shaft move easily or is it rather firm moving it in and out?

Regards,
BigMike

The slip-joint moves easy , by hand... when it is off the truck. I have double checked the rear drive shaft , it isn't too long(I've used custom d-shafts & stock ones... all the same length) Do you think that the drive angle ...the t-case to the d-shaft angle is too great? Do you think that I need to drop the t-case down a little bit to compensate for the lift ?  I use this truck as my daily driver... Approx. 150 mi. per day, 3-4 days a week. Thanks     Phil
