ya it does mean jack, and when the moter isnt even built for a turbo it means alot, and the only turbo id put on is a hudge 4 inch intake marine turbo that i had on my 94 truck, witch has like 25 psi of boost, way too much for a non turbo 7.3 l,    they have diffrent :pokinit: in the turbo moters to hold up to the turbos, if i could get my hands on a stock turbo id throw it on, but i dont have one

Any motor can have a turbo, blower, supercharger installed on it. You could throw a Turbo on a 14:1 small block and still make it work. Like I stated, it's all in the boost numbers. That 14:1 smallblock would live only if the boost numbers were very minimal. Banks sells a kit for the old GM diesel (like polishing a turd if ya ask me, no matter how much you polish, it's still a turd) that was never meant to use a turbo but it only produces about 6 or 7 psi of boost so the motor won't grenade. I'd say get ahold of an old smaller Holeset turbo (an HS 35 would be too big, would  still be giving upwards of 18psi) and slap it on. You can get them relatively cheap used and it will give you a little added something without blowing your motor. Turbos make any tow rig motor better, just have to put some thought into the setup before building it.

no, infact ive heard that to a point, turbos help an engine run more efficiant, and certainly cleaner

scheid6996

i guess it depends on how much boost your running, a little never hurt anything

just get a turbo with a low boost output and you should be fine.

Yep, if the rings are worn it will wash fuel past them and finish them off. Then you start sucking oil from the pan on deceleration and the motor will run away. 50 k is still low mileage for a diesel and moderate boost shouldn't be a problem.

Sounds like I want a Ford chassis, cummins motor and allison trans. I like allison trans. I've been driving garbage trucks with them for over 17 years. :beerchug: Keep the comments coming
do what alot of guys are doing now, go down to freightliner and buy the smaller version of the 18 wheeler and you can get the cummins motor and the allison 10spd,plus extra room in the back. I drove a truck with a cummins for a year, and drove one with a detroit. the cummins deffinately had the power advantage, especially with 45,000lbs in the box.

crawlerdan

i drove a freightliner for a year also, it was sweet, had an exhaust brake, could haul like 25000 pounds or some crap, the truck cost the company 38000 dollars used with 65000 miles on it, compared to the cost of commercial deisels i think that it was a great deal! :burnout:

I think thats why guys are buying them and pulling their 5th wheels with them

crawlerdan

hell ya, with that little weight, my old rig would have got like 20 mpg or so

79coyotefrg

you can also get the 3126 Cat, ( its a 8.2L i think)   with the allison,   but you can "order" any truck with the little Cat , little Cummins ie 5.9 dodge cummins or the bigger 8.3L cummins thats found in most chevy and ford medium duty trucks,   you know like the city uses,  F550 up
chevy 5500,6500,

oh yea the small Detroit is a duramax/Isuzu,     the Inline 6  not the v8 found in the chevy HD models

the commercial detroit ,  :driving:  the last over the road truck i had had a 500hp detroit 13.7 L  that was retuned by detroit deisel in Dallas to put 600hp to the wheels

kinda like puting a super chip in the duramax

i left san diego on I-8   with a gross weight of tomatoes,80,000 and going east into the mountains my tranny and differential were actually overheating, but i was passing cars and pickups when i got stopped by the CHP,
