One of my buddies was making a compeling case for tne new big red letter general grabber.  They are made in USA and fairly cheap, which is nice. They look like a good gross between mud and all terrain and if they suck in ice you could sipe the heck out of them.

i wanted km2s but went with the cooper stt 35x12.50 on15s paid around 180 a tire. took the shop 2 days to get them have had them all summer and they have been great in rocks and on the 90 mile mon-thur pavement trip to work.  i had some 33s last winter and they did great in the snow! got me to work everyday and they had about 10% left!

I keep reading that in these threads and am not sure why people keep saying it but not looking into it.  So let's take a few 35x12.50-15 choices:

General red letter:  74 lbs
BFG km2:  61 lbs
Goodyear kevlar mt/r:  67 lbs

Of the several I looked at, most were in the mid 60 lb range.

FYI, AT's appear to be on back order and have been for a while now.  Unless your supplier has them in stock, you might be waiting a while for those.

Didn't get a chance to ask about all sizes, but I did hear today that 315/75-16 bfg at and possibly 35x12.50-15 are on national backorder for  :dunno:  Talked to one place that said they were negative 65 in stock  :ack:

Yeah All I can find available anywhere right now is the goodyears at a local dealer and one set of KM2s that Walmart can get from a wharehouse in WY. I can get the 35x13.50r15 Toyo MTs from Helena, but that's 100 miles away and they cost about $200 more.

Bummer, no discount tire near you and even discount tire direct is backordered on them.  BFG may be focusing a lot on rebounding from a major recall on a couple sizes of work truck tires

So after all that It came down to what was available.  I ended up ordering from 4wheel parts because they were having a sale on tires and they could beat any prices on anything around here by $200 or more.  The BFG ATs were on back order like everyone else.  I strongly considered the Cepek FC-2 but those were unavailable too.  So what I was left with was the KM2 and the Goodyear MTR.  There were a few other AT options but they all look way to mild in the tread department.  I chose the MTR because they looked like they had a few more working edges and sipes for snow and ice and it seems like they should have decent road manners for an MT.

Also I won a recent rock crawl comp on a borrowed set of Goodyears so that helped sway my decision a bit :).

So now, should I mount them on my white spokes or on my black rock crawler wheels?

I was pretty impressed with 4 wheel parts I ordered on Monday and got the tires Thursday. These things look cool. Probably an inch and a half taller than my played out pro comps. They are blackwalls as well which is cool because I was expecting the 35s to be RWL.

Well I balanced them with 12 oz of shot each and they run true with no shimmy spots.  These are sure quiet for such an agressive tire.  We took a spin on the "gap road" a muddy two track with lots of washboards and little rocks and they ride really nice.  Feel about like the BFG products I have had I the past. Tracking on loose gravel is excellent...

Watched the MTR's work on the Dusy/Ershim trail this weekend, they work awesome. I also have a friend that has them and they work great snow wheeling for him.

Decent 15" tires are getting harder to find, but I do not want to give up my Champion beadlocked Ultra 50 wheels!!!!!

Ran them on some wet icy roads and 3" of fresh wet snow on mild mountain 2 tracks on a work trip.  Pretty good hook up all around. Lateral traction on the mountain roads didn't come in good until about 20 psi but I was in 2WD and I run a spooled rear. Ice traction on pavement is not an AT or a snow tire but better than most mud terrains I've had in the past. Can't wait to get some legitimate snow wheeling in...

I drive my truck as a DD.  I love A/T, they wear great, road noise isn't bad.  The M/T would obviously be better off road but expect to buy tires twice as fast.  Especially since the majority of your driving you said it done on highways.  A/T are fine for the weekend crawler, if you really need to get a set for crawling, just keep a spare set of used M/T to swap when you plan on going on wheeling trips.  It doesn't take long to swap a set of tires.

I am a real estate appraiser with a rural/remote rec property niche. You have to inspect homes you are appraising, mostly for banks, then you have to take photos of everything that has sold in the recent past that helps you put a value on whatever property is the subject of the appraisal. On these rural jobs you can put in 500 miles of travel easy by the time you've accomplished what you need. It's great the places I get to go for legitimate reasons but I don't get paid enough or often enough to make much of a profit. Most of the time it's what you would call "overland" travel. Better than a typical job though, you get to pick which 16 hours of the day you ant to work... :) The office work on the computor is the part I hate.

I have about 3,000 miles on the Goodyears now and they are just great on and off road. Cornering is excellent for a mud tire. Other than my spooled rear scuffing the front edge of the lugs on the back tires there is no noticable wear.  Can't wait for some real snow to come...

Decent 15" tires are getting harder to find, but I do not want to give up my Champion beadlocked Ultra 50 wheels!!!!!

Its because of all the diesels and their huge shiny rims and 4links "just cuz." Everybody wants obscenely large wheels and The most aggressive tread possible so they can drive on the... street...

Blame it on Ford and Dodge for ruining good ol 15" steel wagonwheels.
