80 Series/Hilux hybrid front diff
« on: Aug 20, 2012, 10:04:15 PM »
Hi,
I have just started a build with my 1988 Xtra Cab. I am placing a 1UZ and Auto in.
I want to run coils up front utilising all 80 Series components. My question is can you either shorten an 80 diff to Hilux width utilising the Hilux inner axles or will the 80 Swivel Balls fit into a Hilux housing?
Any help will be appreciated.
I have to get this thing engineered and registered in Australia so I cannot just place the 80 axle under the front. So basically I want a Hilux width axle with 80 series HP, swivels/larger CV's and steering components.
I can get my hands on an 80 diff and brackets. If I go this way I wont have to buy a high steer.

Any help would be great.

If you want the 80 strength at the knuckle end of the housing, then call and get Bobby Long's axles.  They are the strongest axles you can buy.  http://www.longfieldsuperaxles.com/
That will eliminate the knuckle/steering joint issue you looking for.  And the next concern of yours is a hi-pinion housing.

And just need your reverse cut gears for the housing.  And while your beefing up the axle, another thing to help strengthen a weak area would be these brackets.

It's either that, or you spend the money to have a 80 series axle cut down, and then find somebody to cut down, and spline your axles too.  So, you can either build something with custom made one of a kind pieces, or off the shelf parts.

Hope this helps!!
