Hi, I've fitted a 3RZ engine to my 1993 RN110 hilux (Australia) and currently its using the W59 bellhousing to G52-G58? gearbox with chain drive VF1A transfer case and still has the ADD set up and IFS diff.

What I'm looking to find out is what bellhousing, gearbox and transfer combinations are available I'm doing a SAS conversion soon and want to upgrade the gearbox to something that handles more power and to a gear driven transfer case so I can run reduction gears or dual cases?

Basics of the truck when finished will be 33x12.5r15 mud tyres, lockers front and rear original 1993 IFS diff in rear and a 1985 solid axle up front not sure what ratio yet maybe 4.88 any suggestions??

Will be used as an all round truck some touring, beach work, crawling etc if its down on power once fitted with all touring gear will be looking to turbo or super charge the 3RZ.

thanks.

If my memory serves me right.  The basic setup is a 2/3RZ, W59 bellhousing, W56 transmission, and to 21-spline R1FA transfercase (gear driven t-case).   This is the basic setup.  You will want to look for a W56C series transmission as they are the strongest in the W56 lineup, but any of the W-series will be stronger than the G-series.

And you should be pretty good with the 4.88 gears with 33's, since from my understanding that Australia doesn't have much in the form of rocks to crawl on.   Alot of guys around here run 3RZ, with 5.29's, and tires larger than 35's (and 40's) with no problems.  The 3RZ is a powerhouse of a 4cylinder.  Bigmike ran a supercharger on his, and had issues, so he took it off.  And is now running his truck with a basic 3RZ, 5.29's, and 37's, and can easily pull some steep paved roads doing 65+mph.  I know this for a fact.      Because I followed him up a very steep paved road and we were doing 65 mph easy, and he said he was holding it back for me.  So, I know he could have easily done 70+ mph up that hill.

Hopefully, BigMike, TacoRunner, and a few other 3RZ gurus can help with more info.

Here is a link on 3RZ swaps.  After searching they all refer to Marlins link.

OK thanks for your help cheesemaker. Any idea what model vehicles the W56C came out in and which ones are fitted with the R1FA transfer cases or do I need an adaptor to mount this style transfer case?

I'm assuming theres probably some differences in models between Australia and US anyway but a rough idea what year/engine combination i need to keep an eye out for to get the box from a wrecker.

thanks again!

IIRC there might be some differences between US imported and other country imports.   But here is a quick reference.
http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmission/rebuilt-complete

As for the R1FA t-case, generally over here they were the ones that came behind the 4 cylinder 22R series motors.  Over here the chain driven ones were behind the V6's, and the R series transmissions.  Hope this helps.  Maybe some of our members from other countries can help, and/or Bigmike himself.

Ok thanks guys, I've looked through the transmission guide quickly but I think models differ over here a little. My trucks a 1993 model came out with a carby 22R G series box and chain drive transfer pretty sure we didn't even get a 22RE option so I'll have to do some more research and find out what came out with a W56 and gear drive transfer over here it'll be an easier option with already having W59 bell housing compared to trying to go an R series box.
