Well for the first time since it was brought to my house, the 4runner now sits on its own weight in front... for mock up. didnt have the u bolts made yet so the springs are strapped to the housing for mock up. Now I can measure for rear mounts and move the steering box forward and all that.

Very stoked. its making progress.

Oh and Cody & picked up 4 35x12.5R16 KM2's to use for mock up and then spares.

Oh my god, I feel like this is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre II.  I have a fantastic, 1987 4Runner that I bought here in San Diego last November, that had a "Non Operational" title on her for 10 years and she was resurected to some degree by a former Toyota of Escondido Tech. when I picked her up last November.  I truly know that I paid too much for her @ $3,800, but regardless, I have secured a beautiful 1985 Solid Front Axle from Alabama that is currently nestled in my garage and and I am planning on getting her set up with a full SAS from the Yota Master Guys when I have the full set of funds to do it right as I only want to do it one time w/o any problems & the Yota Master Guys are THE ONLY WAY to do it right the first time just like Billy Joel sings it.

Yeah hire everything out.  Cool man, that's how I roll.  Who needs the respect and learning you get from doing it yourself anyway?  We don't bag on peoples builds here Steve.  If you have something from personal experience you can point out about something then by all means lend some freindly advice or correction, if not keep the insults to your self.  Go buy an H3 and some 22s you sissy mary fruit cake!

Billy Joel?  Seriously!?

My hat is off to that. Nothing like looking back on something you put your blood sweat and possibly tears into. And lets not forget, working under the sky and on a dirt lot, man, that is cool.

THK, the build is coming along nicely.

Folks, I am sorry I had to come back to this but, if this was posted on my build, and yes it qualifies. I would swear my wife posted it. Gail, realy, now in front of the guys?

I fail to see where "steve blacks" first post had anything to do with my thread. thanks for the "looking nicely" response..

Moving on, I am having some shackles made as well as some front shackle mounts. i plan to have the front mounts welded on and the shackles on. the rear should be up in the air as well. and if all goes as planned, the front axle should be getting its steering. all by the weekend :P

So here is the updated plan of attack.

    • finish the front spring install (rear mounts, u bolts, shackles and grinding down the axle)
    • Lift The Rear (blocks and shackles)
    • Steering
    • Transmission and duals
    • Drivelines and Shocks ( i plan to get a blown 22RE to use for mock up so i can get the suspension dialed and the shocks mounted correctly.. which leads to the next step)
    • Lastly a remanufactured 22R/22RE long block ( making it brand new and fresh, no EGR and run it bare bones)

      • Also I purchased a Grey 85 Inclinometer from "Bleakhorizon", should be dropped off with UPS tomorrow.  :beerchug:

I don't know I got 24.5 mpg out of my 3RZ on the road with 35s, it has enough power to get down the freeway and up passes well, but not enough power to grenade parts on a daily basis.  I can see you want to bo something non-typical with balls though and that is cool. The 22re is dependable and easy.

Do you have a 22re core laying around or are you completely engineless?  They are cake to rebuild.

For me it would come down to what I could get my hands on first and at the best deal.

I am completely engineless, transmissionless and tcaseless. lol

I want to do something non typical with balls, yes. a reman is like $1800 for a 22re.

just opening my options.

You might as well get just what you want then and go for the balls.  I allready had alot of cash tied up in a t-case setup so it was a no-brainer for me to stay with something that bolted right up.  You could do an entire drivetrain swap as long as you can get the t-case adapter to drop on the passenger side.

Wa had this idea of setting up an early 3RZ with a vacuum distributor and a big carb or some sidedrafts.  It would go better in a 1st gen pickup though. I had a buddy that did the supra strait 6 but I lost track of him. It was nice though.

I know the 3RZ is easy and has been done time n time again, same with the 5vz. that option is there, but id like to intertain an Inline-6 if I can. :P

2JZ-GTE twin turbo flavor imo ! or a single turbo with this size.. http://youtu.be/dkasvQXDyh0 . Atleast if i was ever to do another yota motor thats what i would do haha. Those things are way to stupid easy to get power out of.
